The Importance of Being Bilingual

Students in my ESL class are ahead of me...they're bilingual, so they could have helped Lucy!

How has knowing another language helped you?  How many languages do you speak?

I only know full heartedly one language, but I know some other languages too. I know Latin and Spanish. For Latin , it has helped me a lot with reading ancient documents and helping my mom figure out whether or not an antique was part of the Roman Empire. For Spanish, sometimes I ha to understand Spanish speakers to tell where they needed to go, and it helped me to translate a French story for my little sister about werewolves. Languages has helped me a lot!

I am only fluent in English. I am definitely not fluent in Spanish, but I know the basics. I am not very good at it and haven't really had the opportunity to use it outside of school. However, if I am ever in Mexico or travel to an area where the people primarily speak Spanish, I'm sure it will come in handy. I can then say it would be helpful to communicate with the community around me.
