After two weeks of school, what have you learned so far? Thinking specifically about our math class, what have you learned about how our class works, how to prepare for the class, how to complete homework, and how to prepare for a test? What can you do differently this week? How will you prepare for our next test?
Don't panic if your grade is not what you want at this point. It's OK to make mistakes! Learn from your mistakes! Make new mistakes. :) Do you have any favorite "failure quotes?"
This is the most fun math class i had ever have! Math definetely fit on that quote that says "its not what you say, but how you say it" and i will do my best to have our study groups to help me prepare for the next test :)

I have learned that to study for the test you must go back and re-work problems. You just can't look at your notes.
ReplyDeleteHeather Dean
I learned that the answers to assigned bookwork pages are in the back of the book. (I did not know this until a week into school....) I also learned that doing the homework helps with my understanding of the topic A LOT even though I don't have it down perfectly.

I have learned that if you don't understand something or don't make a good grade you shouldn't just give up, but go to tutoring and try to do better the next time. A good quote about failure is, "Try and fail, but don't fail to try." - Stephen Kaggwa
ReplyDeleteI love that quote!! Thanks for sharing!
DeleteI have learned how much fun math can be in Ms. Laster's class. Also, I have learned that doing the homework really helps you understand the concept better.

Although it's been light hearted and sweet, I've had to snap back into reality and realize that this is still a PreAP course. I've come to accept the fact that I'll have to study a couple of nights in advance before a test so I can receive a passing grade that's firm as opposed to one that's barely sliding by. "Failure is the condiment that gives success it's flavor."-Truman Capote

I'm loving your quotes! And the comments and reflections are excellent! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI've learned that if you get behind on work, go to tutoring and spend extra time working practice problems because even a little bit of time spent practicing can pay off big time.

So far in class, I've learned that things can get overwhelming really quickly. If you don't catch up on studying and reviewing, you'll be further behind than where you started. "Every person who has become successful has simply formed the habit of doing things that failures dislike doing and will not do." - Unknown
ReplyDeleteI've learned that paying attention in class is the key to success, you don't want to be playing catch-up all year. It is also not a problem to use other sources to learn as I have a few times in the past. Remember: homework = practice so do it! Even if you are exempt for a good test grade you should still do it to help ace the next test.

In the first two weeks of the school year I learned that math is a good way to get to know people, even if at first it doesn't seem like you have any connection. Math is like a language, only its alphabet is made up of numbers and Greek letters and signs and sines and circles, etc. Also, if you're sitting next to the AC, wear a sweatshirt.

I have learned that I learn more when I try the harder problems on the homework instead of just give up and find the answer online or in the back of the book.

Also, whenever you're in class, you need to be paying attention to everything because if you tune out you could miss something really important.
